Brussels Interuniversity Genomics High Throughput core (BRIGHTcore) is the joint interuniversity genomics platform of the three universities and their connected university hospitals in Brussels. At BRIGHTcore, we collaborate with academic and clinical partners to develop custom, state-of-the-art genomics assays and diagnostic pipelines across both wet lab and bioinformatics domains (https://www.brightcore.be/).
The current bioinformatics team consists of five bioinformaticians with a variety of backgrounds. We mainly work in a local Belac-accredited unix cluster environment. Together with our wetlab application specialists we support a diverse range of university and hospital departments, with a focus on genetics, oncology, fertility, immune mediated diseases and microbiology.Â
To expand its expertise BRIGHTcore is looking for an enthusiastic (gen)omics bioinformatician.Â

What the role entails
Development of new analyses pipelines, continuous development/implementation of new features in existing pipelinesÂ
Validation of code/pipeline/tools within our accredited diagnostic environment (ISO17025 and ISO 15189)
Initiating and maintaining contacts with internal and external partners to analyze and realize their bioinformatics needsÂ
Manage your own projects, communicate with all stakeholders, regularly present your progressÂ
Possibility to initiate and support novel health care related bioinformatics research.Â
Possibility to supervise PhD and master students as well as researchers Â
What are we looking for
You have a PhD in a relevant field or at least 4 years of equivalent work experience in the field of bioinformaticsÂ
You have demonstrable experience with the data analysis of at least one omics technology (genomics, transcriptomics, epigenomics, ...)Â
You have experience with at least one of the following languages: R or Python
You have experience with workflow management and containerization tools
You are used to work in a UNIX environment and familiar with bashÂ
If you have the following skills, it would be a plus:Â
relational databases
analysis of long read sequencing dataÂ
structural and copy-number variant detection in genome and exome dataÂ
Experience with system administration
